I was so fortunate to be the wedding photographer and videographer for a dear friend of mine whose wedding took place in Tokyo, Japan! The bride and groom are both huge Disney fans and decided to have a Tangled themed wedding. The wedding took place at a quaint yet modern indoor venue. When I arrived, the first thing I did was explore the venue to find areas that would be ideal to take photos at. After this was done, I took some photos of the bride and groom getting ready in the separate areas of the venue. Below you can see the bride wearing a cute Mickey Mouse hairpiece and showing everyone that her dress has pockets!
Once everyone was ready, I took the groom outside to have him stand in place for the first look. After a few minutes, the bride arrived and when the groom turned around, his eyes lit up with happiness at the sight of his beautiful bride. The lovely couple stayed outside for about 10 minutes to enjoy their moment while I quietly took photos of them.
Once this was done, the bride and groom went back inside to their designated areas to get ready for the ceremony. As the guests arrived, I took photos of the venue and walked around the space. Here you can see that the decorations resemble the movie Tangled.
Once the guests were settled, the ceremony began. It was a beautiful ceremony filled with lots of laughter, blushes, and tender moments. My favorite moment was when the groom put the ring on the bride. He said, "Yes!" and made a motion with his fist to show his excitement at finally getting to marry his love.
After the ceremony, I quickly took some family photos of the Bride and Groom with their families. I try to complete this portion of photos as quickly as possible to save the smiles for later. We then gathered the wedding party to take some photos both inside and outside of the venue. It was also extremely hot out that day so we tried to keep the outside photos to a minimum.
Now to my favorite part of the day, the bride and groom portraits! We were limited by where we could take photos because the venue informed us that certain areas were off limits, so we took these photos in front of the main entrance. The cutest thing about this couple was how shy they were with their affection. It was fun to try different poses and see them having fun as they took photos.
Due to the heat, we went back into venue after about 40 minutes to move on to the reception. I usually like to spend an hour shooting the couple's portraits but in this case, it was better to finish quickly. One thing that I thought was unique about this wedding was the bride made her own cake. The fun thing about this was that she absolutely loved how it came out because she knew what she wanted. She made a peanut butter chocolate cake and it was delicious.
The reception continued with more dancing and fun with their guests. At one point of the evening, two friends of the bride and groom sang the song, "I See the Light" from the movie Tangled. The couple danced as they sang and it was beautiful. After this, the music changed to upbeat songs and all the guests joined in to dance together.
This was a wonderful wedding and I was so happy that I was able to make the international trip to attend. I had a great time in Tokyo, Japan and this was one of my favorite weddings to shoot so far.
